It’s tagging time

Here’s the lowdown: the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) means that all sheep and goats need to be tagged from birth starting on 1 January 2025.

What’s the score?

In September 2022, federal and state agriculture ministers agreed to implement a nationally consistent individual electronic identification (EID) system for sheep and goats.

From 1 January 2025, all newborn lambs and kids will need to be identified with an NLIS accredited electronic identification (EID) tag before leaving their property of birth.
